Oulton Park Race Report
Hi everyone, hope everyone had a mega weekend on their bank holiday weekend, the sun was beaming down all weekend at Oulton Park and couldn’t have been better for us.
With a slow start to the practice’s due to my wrist still being sore from a crash in testing and a technical in the 2nd session, we lost valuable setup time for the race on the Monday. We made big changes for the qualifying session which worked a treat and gave me great feeling from the throttle to the rear tyre, something that we’d been missing. We only went out and put it on pole position with not the cleanest of laps and 0.2 of my ideal.
Race day came and it was an early race for us at 10:50 so with the warmup at 9:15, there was no room for error.
I got an appalling start and ended up back in 9th/10th place, I knew I needed to move forward fast so I got my way into 5th by the end of the first lap and into 4th on lap two on back of leading 3. I sat patiently waiting to near end of the race until I made a few moves, getting close with Chrissy Rouse at shell oils and again into Brittens a few laps later. With 3 laps remaining I made a move to the front thinking I could get away but with a mistake at Brittens a lap later, the gap was zero to Joe Collier and Chrissy. I wanted to lead as I knew where they were strong and not so strong with watching them in midpoint in the race. Going onto the final lap Joe passed me into turn one but I knew I needed to pass him straight away so I passed him from turn one going into turn 2 (very fast, brave place to pass if I say so myself😎), from this I didn’t look back and won by 0.086 of a second from Joe Collier and Chrissy Rouse. Massive thank you to all the Tyco team, my mechanics Factory Phil and Turk for there hard work and to all my family, friends, fans and sponsors Rapid, Waitings, Hillcroft Park, Dickies, Eden Commercials, JW Plastering, Fit 4 Racing, AC Autos, Arai, RST and Lee and LC Custome for my factory paint job on my helmets.
Thank you all
