Oulton Park Race Report

Heading into round 10 of the championship and with only one round remaining for the Superstock 1000cc class at Brands Hatch, we needed a strong round to take the pressure off.

Friday practice day was a day of rain in both sessions, and with rain being given for part of Saturday and Sunday we tried to get a setting dialled in which we did and ended the day p1 overall.

Saturday was straight into qualifying with patchy conditions which I am not keen on pushing in as it’s so easy to have a slip off, we ended the session p5 and not overly happy with feeling with the bike. We made a few changes for race on Saturday evening, how ever with so little setup time we just didn’t get it spot on as I struggled throughout the race until the fuel load went down and we started to make in roads and closed 2.5seconds down to get 2nd by 0.4 behind Billy our main competitor. Now we were 5.5points back on the championship lead and pressure firmly on us to do well on the Sunday.

With our race on at 3.05pm we had the hole day to wait and nerves were building strongly but I was glad of the tricky conditions as felt quietly confident in the wet. We had a stead start and settled into race and found ourselves in the lead at end of lap one but in a tricky conditions I didn’t really want to be the one to lead and find out where there was or wasn’t grip. As I dropped back into 3rd place I sat there comfortably and tried to save my tyre best I could, while Billy was sliding his tyre quite a lot I knew it would ruin his tyre, with 5/6 laps to go I got into 2nd behind Alex Olsen who looked really smooth, I made a pass and pushed to make a break to put space between myself and and billy in 3rd, not knowing he ran on and was now in 7th. As I got the win (which has felt like so long ago since my last) I had a look to see who was 2nd/3rd and so on and never seen Billy which was obviously good for my championship status, I now lead the championship by 10.5points with only one race remaining at brands Hatch on the 12/13/14th October.

I was to get a wild card entry at Assen on the superbike for Tyco BMW but we have called it off due to risk of injury to try and claim our 4th British title.

Thank you to the team for all the support, my personal sponsors and all who support me from family, friends and fans.
